After the suspect was apprehended for preparing to assassinate Trump, Musk tweeted, “Nobody is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” which angered many of his followers. The tweet quickly went viral and drew significant backlash before being deleted.
Security experts have warned about the serious implications of Musk’s statements. Tom Nichols, a former U.S. Naval War College professor, highlighted the gravity of the situation by saying, “If I had said something like this, I would immediately lose my security clearance. But this guy is still working with the government!”
In response to the criticism, Musk stated, “I’ve learned that what I say in a group doesn’t always translate well when shared on X,” noting that the joke was taken out of context.
This incident recalls Musk’s previous risky behaviors that jeopardized his security clearance. In 2019, Musk faced scrutiny from the Pentagon due to drug use on Joe Rogan’s podcast and allegations of drug use in 2024.
